There is a great tackle shop, White's Tackle, here on the Treasure Coast with several locations - I've recently visited their Vero Beach (fly) and Fort Pierce (spin and offshore) locations for help with rod and reel set-up and tackle purchases. I had already purchased the rods and reels and needed to get them ready for 6 anglers (myself and my 5 adults "boys") for an upcoming Bahamas trip.

I spent around 2 hours at each location. I received one-on-one attention, consulting, dos/don'ts, and a complete setup: leaders, knots, spooling line, terminal tackle, advice, etc. And, had a great time doing it: Swapping fish stories, sharing techniques, getting local advice, and just generally yukking it up. The staff, to a person, were excellent, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Did I spend more than I needed to by paying full retail! in return for their high level of service versus DIY? Absolutely. I definitely paid a full-service premium verus buying from the faceless retailers on the internet.

And...I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The service and experience were well worth double that premium. Thank you to White's Tackle for an excellent buying experience.

I go to White's Tackle every time I'm down there and even make special trips when I really need something. Dave Olson, the manager, is one of the most knowledgeable individuals in the fishing world, especially when it comes to fly fishing. I wish it was closer so it could be my regular store, instead of 3 hours away. Top rated gear and friendly service, everything you could ask for.

Good option for fishing tackle given a limited number of choices in Vero Beach. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They have no live bait and limited frozen baits. Mainly geared for terminal tackle, artificial lures, and fishing flies. They have a limited selection of rods & reels, and specialized apparel. The larger store is in Ft. Pierce so this store has access to many items not inventoried at this location if a customer can wait a few days for it to arrive. I find their prices to be very competitive, and cheaper than some other local tackle shops. I try to buy local when it comes to recreational gear to support the few stores still able to survive given online competition.

Great selection of fly fishing tackle. David Olsen is a highly respected top expert at all things fly fishing, rigging, fly tying, and an award winning fly caster and instructor! He is extremely generous sharing his expertise, and is a great guy!

Their selection of rods and reels is impressive. Though it's not a large shop, the chances are that you'll find the rod you're looking for; whether it be a spinning, casting, surf rod, or fly rod. They had a surprisingly extensive amount of saltwater fly fishing gear. The selection of saltwater spinning and casting reels was impressive; boasting some of the latest releases from major manufacturers like Shimano, Abu Garcia, Penn, etc. They also had what was easily one of the most impressive selections of fishing apparel. Companies such as Simms, Patagonia, and Ex Officio were on hand. I will say that I thought the prices for the fishing apparel were some of the highest I'd seen, but there's no doubt that you're buying high quality stuff. Moreover, they had a very knowledgeable and helpful staff.
