What I love about screwfix and toolsation is how quickly you can order an item then drive over and it's ready for you to pick it up. Unfortunately this didn't work out today as it always has in the past.

I ordered three items one of them was unavailable at the toolstation which is only a minute away from my house. So instead of buying two things from the store that's closest to me and then driving further away for the one item, I decided to buy all of them from the store that's further away.

Apparently they didn't have the item that I really needed in stock and so they canceled and refunded me. But they didn't call or message (something screwfix does) to let me know. So I drove 15 minutes to go to that store to pick up the other two items which were available at the store that was only a minute away. Really ticked me off.

So I asked the staff member if there was anything that they do in circumstances like this? She looked very confused and didn't really understand what I was asking. So I said to her I had to drive 15 minutes to come to the store to pick up the two items which were available to me at the store that's closest to me. If you guys had just picked up the phone and called me and told me that this item was not in stock it would have saved me a long trip for no reason this is a big inconvenience. She shrugged her shoulders and said she worked part-time there and it's not her store and policy to reward inconvenienced customers in simpler words.

I remember a similar incident happening with screwfix off of Manchester road and they literally called me apologized that the item was not in stock as it had showed on their website and offered a 10 lb credit notice on my next order. It's a small gesture but it tells you that hey we realize we screwed up and we are really sorry and want to make it up to you. It's nice when that happens when a company recognizes that you as a customer are valuing the relationship that you have with them by spending your money at their location. In turn when they make a mistake they acknowledge that and go out of their way to show you that.

What really upset me about the entire incident is the staff member did not even apologize to start off with as if it's normal and they didn't do anything wrong to inconvenience me and this way. When I pointed it out that screwfix is policy is much better than theirs she shrugged her shoulders and said this isn't my store and it's not my policy I only work here part-time.

Just because you're a part-time staff member doesn't mean that you should be rude or not acknowledge when you or your store has screwed up and inconvenienced a customer.

Whenever I can moving forward I will try and make sure I buy my items from screwfix and not toolstation.

Brilliant shop and value for money but deb is a different kettle of fish. She needs a years long customer service course. Every time I go in I purposely pretend I’m looking at something so I don’t have to experience debs very very poor customer service and arrogance or better still go across the road to screwfix. Deb does not have a clue about items in stock and just gives the answer of “how am I supposed to know” I wouldn’t have deb serve a pig never mind a customer in a multi million pound company. Other than that tool station is tool station, be a better place to shop without miserable, rubbish customer service deb
