Here’s my extended experience.
First visit they Got my name wrong, disclosed information about another patient to me thinking I was a completely different patient. Had to convince them and give them my ID to prove I was not the patient they thought I was. Flag number 2.
I went to this place because they do a sliding scale payment deal. It’s a place for people who are in poverty and can’t afford psychiatric treatment. I lost my job, so I couldn’t afford my psychiatrist anymore. I went to Suncoast, the psychiatrist there was very judgy in regards to the medication that I’ve been on for more than two years. She took me off all the medication’s that helped and put me on a bunch of new medication‘s That made absolutely no sense for me to be on. Get this - One of the medication’s, cost $1400 a month. That’s WITH good RX. That is not a joke or an exaggeration. Here’s the trick. She told me how wonderful it was, and how helpful it was and she even gave me a free month supply. Then when I went to get my prescription refilled, it was $1400 for the one prescription (one month supply). It was a prescription for anxiety to try and get me off a low dose of Benzodiazepines that I was on for 2 years. Always taken as prescribed never abused. Do not go Here. If you are prescribed any benzos or anything of that nature and you truly need them to get through your day-to-day life, they will take them from you and Treat you like a drug addict.
$1400 for medication is something I would expect for a cancer patient or something of that nature. That’s more than my monthly rent. She told me if I could prove that my income was below a certain bracket I would get them for cheap. I Showed all that paperwork and they denied me anyway.
I don’t know about you, but it seems really sketchy to me that she would hand me a brown bag full of medication for free, without telling me it was gonna cost $1400 a month afterwards. That comes across to me is a drug dealer mentality. Here, Let’s take you off the drugs you can afford that actually work, and put you on something different that doesn’t work. Now I’m dealing with withdrawal symptoms not only from the meds she took me off of, but the $1400 medication that I can no way shape or form afford! She also took me off the Seizure medication that I was prescribed. Why you ask? Me too.
And no joke, in regards to the seizure meds she had to look up them up in a book - she didn’t even know what the medication was! she didn’t even know what it was and took me off the medication anyway.
She prescribed me gabapentin and told me I would be just fine and sent me on my way.
Great job suncoast. Thanks for taking me off all the meds the helped me function, now I’m afraid to leave my house and my anxiety is so bad I need assistance just to go to the grocery store and I’m only 30 years old.
Dont go here for psychiatry services.
By the way, they make it seem convenient because they have a pharmacy built written into the office. Don’t let that fool you. If you go to a different pharmacist, it’ll take weeks for you to get your Prescription filled.
You know those TV shows and movies you watch where the doctors come in and convince the prescriber to sell their medications and give Them incentives? That’s what this whole experience felt like.
