My loved one has been at Lakewood since the mid 1990's. The staff are consistently caring, professional, and have wonderful understanding of his needs. The programs and activities are many and suited to a wide variety of interests and needs. The setting is beautiful and offers not only a beautiful view but also the buildings and grounds are well maintained. I would without hesitation recommend Lakewood.

My adult son has been a resident at Lakewood for the past 14 months. Before finding Lakewood we struggled to find the right living situation where we could balance our family relationship with the care and treatment he needed. Lakewood has given us our "boy" back. He has learned much about his mental illness. He now understands it is something he will always have to live with and monitor. He was resistant to the medication and treatment regimen in the beginning; but now he has come to understand that his long-term quality of life depends upon the practices and coping skills he has learned at Lakewood. Every single staff member I have had the pleasure to interact with has been professional, nurturing and committed to having the residents thrive and find their path to the best life possible. Honestly there are so many good things to say about Lakewood. When you go on campus, you see residents who feel welcomed and comfortable. You see staff members who treat residents as humans with value, worth, and purpose, and who can contribute to bettering the community (ask about their therapeutic work program). And the families that have a loved one living at Lakewood will emphatically vouch for the existence of such an important lifeline that the Lakewood community is and has been for decades now. The reason you won't find a bunch of reviews from family members of residents is that, being a mental health institution, there are privacy ramifications for the residents. Do you have a single doubt about the godsend of a loving community Lakewood is? Seriously - schedule a visit and explore the campus yourself, interacting with residents and staff. Ask if you can enter one of the various housing options available for residents - each unit is well-maintained, clean, and homey. If you have a loved one who suffers from mental health complications (read their admission criteria on Lakewood's website), honestly - get in touch with them. Lakewood may be the perfect community for your loved one.
