I've taken both the Level 1 and Level 2 courses twice with the same instructors. From Bakersfield to Merced this is the closest place to take the courses needed to become a licensed smog technician.

Both times they were taught by Jerry and Jesse. I have no expertise in cars, but both Jerry and Jesse were very patient with me. They're very knowledgeable with 30 + years in smog under both their belts.

Level 1 runs for about 2.5 months, while Level 2 runs for about a month. Each class runs about 2.5-3 hours long 2 times a week starting at 6pm with complimentary popcorn, coffee and hot chocolate with the option to buy water, soda and snacks at a reasonable price (bring quarters). They provide booklets on each course that you can take home.

Overall, both instructors are smog encyclopedias and valuable assets in the smog business. Jerry worked at BAR, so he knows the ins and outs while Jesse diagnoses smog machines for the company he sells for. Jerry puts a lot of work in the courses which I respect alot. They also work with you breaking down the cost of the courses, so you don't have to pay all at once. I highly recommend coming here for your courses.

This place is great! The instructor is very detailed and very calm you really learn real quick and there is no dumb question to ask he will motivate you to ask anything also he helps alot. This experience learning helps alot when working in a shop and your stuck with something

They are a dedicated group that have the experience and hands on training to help you achieve your goals. Jerry Esmay( now retired from BAR ) , owner and lead instructor, and Jessie Gutierrez ( still working as a smog technician and diagnostician ) , also an instructor, are there to guide and help you through the whole process and beyond.
