Currently I am a resident here in the Austin Center. I have been living here going on almost 3 weeks now. My experience living in this shelter has been good so far. I have no complaints to make against any of these employees. Keep up the good work; I know it's gets pretty hectic dealing with hundreds of people with different personalities especially with the ones with multiple personalities. It's take a strong minded person to deal with the residents. Yeah I know I'm new here and still have a little far to go for completing this program; I pray and have faith it will stay the same in the future yet to come.

Ok... where do I start? Great place & concept. Housing programs available. Austin Street shelter provides food, clothing, shelter. Toiletries & insurance assistance. Job certifications. Job placement... counseling, therapy, health care & a warm bed. Corporate staff are passionate & eagerly want to fill beds & want to see full bellies. But, lower level employees are burned out. They are aggressive and condescending. moreover disrespectful to clients living at the shelter. Residents are treated like inmates. I've seen staff members eager to put people back out on the streets. I've seen lower-level staff members who rather see food in the garbage than in people's bellies. I stayed longer than I needed to and left only after I could no longer take disrespect from lower level staff. I did take advantage of opportunities offered by Austin Street Shelter. I left after no longer being able to tolerate condescending disrespectful verbiage tones and treatment by lower level staff. I volunteered assisted in food service. I even gave money food and clothes to some of the residents. Austin Street Shelter is a great place should be used as a step to get to your destination but can easily turn into quicksand. I pray that I never returned but I am grateful and thankful for the opportunities I had while staying at the shelter.

This shelter is not prepared in a holy manner. They do not put God first. The Devil reeks in this place. Only the unholy will make a living here. It’s filled with devils and evil goings.

I stayed here I was afraid at first because of the location it’s what u image a shelter would be rows of beds and bunk beds in a large warehouse like space though it was clean and well managed and the showers are hot and the food good ran in to no issues none of my things stolen I did sleep with my phone on me and my bags stayed close but in a bind I made due here you do have to leave everyday at 5 or 6am kinda place

I almost died of extreme heat exhaustion in Dallas tx , I thank my case worker Ms.Annette Johnson , and the lady over the Computer lab,the service desk,some of the security officers, as well. I was hurting badly . I wasn't on drugs nor Alcohol every bodies experience is different inside the Austin street Shelter . You either want their to help you get on your feet or you don't !!!! They have programs for everything, may our heavenly father bless this place and the staff that wants to help you,I wasn't in jail ,nor a criminal at all.they never hurt me nor disrespected me ,they helped me transportation,food and my 1st & find employment Thank you to the ladies and gentlemen that work there whom want you to succeed

I am currently staying at Austin Street Shelter. Most of the employees are helpful and kind however there is confusion for daily simple tasks because
1. They are not delegated with consistency,so each staff member wants the daily chores done their way.
2. There is not any encouragement after completing daily chores ,like thank you ,I appreciate you helping,you did a great job.
3. The amount of racism and unnecessary drama from grown men is unbelievable for a shelter where you must be 45 and older.

For the most part once you reach the privilege of getting a case worker things around you become a little bit easier to tolerate when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel
All in all I am thankful there are places like Austin Street to give you a push up when you fallen down a little bit.

I ain't gonna lie. It's set up like a prison.
And they try to mark you absent & get you kicked outta there
Gotta watch your back because people are violent even when you're there asleep you're marked absent
Food ain't good either. Something strange about it....
And security real hot
I'd say that place is dangerous honestly
Shoot I won't ever be the same

Volunteered here all the time to make and serve food to the folks here. Everyone is so kind and chill. Helping out here was a great and orderly experience and I highly recommend anyone looking into a service program that helps the people in this community to go ahead and do it. One time, another place had just donated a bunch of sweets just before we served our food, so we were able to have some of those as well, it was a happy surprise for everyone!
