Called ahead for an appointment. Was told to that it wasn't necessary and that i should just come before they close. Arrived 10 minutes prior to closing (that's on me, but it's not like I was advised otherwise) and wasn't even allowed entry to the store.

Atypical and unexpected behavior for an employee who just shows up for a paycheck? No.

Accommodating and thoughtfully oriented towards customer service? Delivering a luxury experience? Up front about what is expected of customers? Also a solid no.

There are numerous craftsmen and small business owners who would have gone the extra mile and made an effort to treat me otherwise. I'd rather take my business elsewhere.

I purchased my first luxury watch in December 2021 which came on a stainless steel bracelet. I wanted to make it extra special by purchasing a custom rubber strap. The Grand Seiko Boutique I bought the watch from recommended Jean Rousseau. I made an appointment and met with Shayna Warren-Freeman, the Boutique Director.

Shayna was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. She showed me different color and thread swatches and recommended what strap/stich color would best complement my timepiece. I ended up ordering a blue rubber strap with gold stitching to match the blue dial and gold second hand on my watch.

The strap was supposed to be made in Paris and be completed in 4-6 weeks. Due to global supply chain constraints and backlogs at US Customs, I did not have the strap after 3 months! Shayna wanted to make things right and invited me back to the store to look at a similar gold thread that could be made in-house at the New York boutique (the original gold thread I selected is very thin and delicate. Only the craftsmen and women in France are trained to work with it). I liked the gold thread alternative and once I selected it, Shayna had her team produce the strap in only 2-3 days!

I originally ordered my strap with a single-folding deployant clasp. It felt too bulky underneath the strap so Shayna was able to swap it for a standard pin buckle. The finished product looked absolutely amazing!

I would strongly recommend Jean Rousseau for any watch enthusiast looking for a special strap to change the look of their timepiece. The boutique also offers a nice selection of standard lug width calfskin leather, rubber, and exotic leather skin strap options for those who want something right away without waiting for a custom strap.

I am grateful for Shayna's help and guidance. She was courteous, professional, and kept me up-to-date throughout the process. You will not be disappointed working with her!

Went to get 2 bespoke straps. I had previously watched a YouTube video prior to coming in — albeit the video was filmed in their London branch — to know what options were available, and it was more helpful and thorough than during the actual bespoke appt here in NY.

Waited about 6-8 weeks and only upon picking them up did I find out I was apparently measured incorrectly for their deployant clasp that I requested, and my only choices are to switch clasps from an oem strap every time I want to use one of them, or purchase another oem clasp for $500.

This could have been prevented by a better explanation of the clasp options available instead of just being told I could pick between a regular (pin-buckle) clasp or a deployant clasp.

Though the straps are beautiful, the ordering process and ultimate completion was kind of disappointing, especially for the price point.

What made the situation worse was there was no offer to make things right, which really detracts from what should be a great experience by a “luxury” watch strap company.
It was simply, “Oh, sorry, that should have been communicated better.”

Maybe look towards Camille Fournet instead.

I originally made the mistake of walking in without an appointment for a custom order and felt like the staff was a bit cold with me. I will admit that I walked out feeling a bit disappointed bit from the experience, especially after spending money on a premium product.

Fast-forward to my second visit after I was made aware my order was ready, I had an appointment this time and the experience was night and day. Second time around, the staff was expecting me, super helpful, friendly and extremely willing to show me various options when I decided to get an additional off-the-shelf strap to go on a different watch.

Their materials are beautiful and quality of their work honestly exceeded my expectations.

Moral of the story... plan your visit via appointment and you're guaranteed a great experience.
